This was our favourite place last trip in 2003, so we booked a week here and were lucky enough to get a spot on the top tier overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately it was pretty windy and cold again!
We did a day trip to Francois Peron National Park north of Denham – visited Cape Peron, Bottle Bay and Herald Bight. On the way up we had to rescue some foreign tourists who had bogged their hire car with no idea or means of how to get out. So Chris spent the next hour freeing their car, turning it around and sending them back to town. Meanwhile we had a traffic jam, another vehicle trying to get around them bogged – it was a 3 ring circus! The track was really sandy and boggy, but the scenery was worth it.
Another day trip south to Eagle Bluff – spectacular lookout and beautiful beach – we could spot the sharks swimming through the clear water below – then to Ocean Park aquarium which was great.
Then we headed off to Hamelin Pool Station stay – dropped in to Shell Beach (no sand – made up of millions of tiny cockle shells up to 10m deep!) and Hamelin Pool (home of the stromatolites – microscopic organisms that combine to form domes, only 1 of 2 places found in the world). It was so damn windy and cold we didn’t stay long at either one!
