From Hamelin Pool station stay to Steep Point it was a 3 hour trip one way, it’s known as one of the best shore-based game fishing destinations in Australia. See photos below – they fish from the cliffs using helium balloons with baits skimming the water and a rope gaff to retrieve any catch – hardcore fishing!
2km down the track at the rangers station is where you can catch the barge over to Dirk Hartog Island. The Zuytdorp Cliffs south of Steep Point extend some 200km to Kalbarri which are spectacular – rise up to 200m out of the Indian Ocean. Also travelled through some beautiful sand dunes, wildflowers and glorious beaches.
